GENERATIONS OF COMPUTER
FIRST GENERATION : ( 1946 – 1956 )
The computer of 1st
generation used vaccum tubes as the basic components for memory
and circuitry for memory and circuitry for CPU .
These early computer
used vaccum tubes as circuitry and magnetic drums for memory .
These computers of
first generation were limited to solve
one problem at a time .
Input was based on punched
cards and paper tape .Output came out on print out .
These generation
computer general a lot of heat , sucked huge electricity .
SECOND GENERATION: ( 1956 – 1964 )
Secondary generation
of computer called Transistor computer .It is a computer which uses discrete transistors
instead of vaccum tubes .The 1st generation of computer used vaccum
tubes which generates large amount of heat were bulky .
There were big
improvement over the vaccum tubes despite still subjecting computers to damage
level of heat .
In comparison to
first generation the size of second generation was smaller .
THIRD GENERATION : ( 1965 – 1971 )
The period of is
roughly considered as the period of 3rd generation of computers .
The third generation
computers were developed by using the integrated circuit technology .
The third generation
computer consumed less power and also generated less heat .
The computer system
of the computer of the third generation was easier for commercial use.
The maintenance cost
of the computer in the third generation was also low .
FOURTH GENERATION OF COMPUTER ( 1971 – 1985 )
The fourth generation
computers were developed by using microprocessor technology .
In this generation ,
used very large integrated circuit ( VLSI ) VLSI having about 5000
transistors .
By coming to fourth
generation computer became very small in size it became portable .
The machine of fourth
generation started generating very low amount of heat .
FIFTH GENERATION OF COMPUTER ( 1985 – TILL NOW )
By the time , the
computer generation was being categorized on the basis of hardware only but the
fifth generation technology also included software .
The computer of 5th
generation had high capability and large memory capacity .
Some of the popular
advanced technologies of 5th generation include , Aritificial intelligent etc .
